Biographical history

Batthyány Ignác, németújvári, gr. (Németújvár, 1741. jún. 30.-Kolozsvár, 1798. nov. 17.) megyéspüspök. A gimnáziumot Budán, Pesten és Nagyszombatban végezte. Filozófiát hallgatott Grácban, majd teológiai tanulmányai 1 évét Nagyszombatban teljesítette. 1763. –tól Coll. Germ. Hung. növendéke; egri kanonok (1767-80), nagyprépost (1773-tól), erdélyi megyéspüspök (1780-tól). A Batthyáneum és a gyulafehérvári csillagászati torony alapítója.
